Front End Engineer, CartoDB

CartoDB is changing the way maps are made by building the easiest and most powerful data mapping engine ever.

The amount of location-based data is exploding, and from biodiversity to transportation to marketing, people around the world are using CartoDB to visualize their data to make better decisions. We have more than 180,000 loving users (growing rapidly) and customers around the world, and have received awesome reviews from key tech and startup media like Techcrunch, GigaOM, and TNW.

We’re looking for an experienced software developer to work on-site with a client, to help implement CartoDB on a major project and to bring that work back into our core platform. Your work will contribute directly to CartoDB’s open source stack, and you’ll be a full member of our engineering team.

Responsibilities:

  • Work on our client-side Javascript libraries, working with large codebases and across different open source projects, such as CartoDB.js, Torque.js or the CartoDB Editor
  • Use and advocate for good testing practices
  • Gather feedback and incorporate it into future technical decisions

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of software experience, with a demonstrated interest in open source
  • Experience with mapping libraries: Google Maps, Leaflet, OpenLayers, D3.js…
  • Experience with large JavaScript applications
  • Experience developing client side APIs
  • Mature approach to software development, including documentation, testing, and optimization
  • Fluid communication skills, whether written or verbal, and fluent English
  • Curiosity, energy, and good humor
  • Love for detail.
  • Interested on traveling. You might have to visit our NYC office from time to time.
  • An approach that contributes to our culture of openness, constant feedback, and iterative improvement

We offer

  • Competitive, results-based compensation
  • Access to our Employee Stock Options Plan.
  • Every friday afternoon is Leapfrog time, where you will be working on whatever you like.
  • Private Medical Insurance.
  • Flexible work hours in a focused but casual environment in the center of Madrid
  • Involvement in the mapping and tech communities—we host lots of events and organize code sprints, and last year >80% of our team spoke at conferences
  • A bright, comfortable office, stocked with snacks, good coffee and even a cinema :)

Most important we offer the chance to help build a wildly successful company that puts the power of mapping in the hands of basically everyone.
